about

Welcome back to my recording of the complete piano works of Erik Satie.

Rather than using another decaying piano, I recorded this installment on a cheap electronic keyboard in various locations. Is that a betrayal of the spirit of this project? Perhaps. But is it a betrayal of the spirit of Erik Satie to betray the spirit of your own project? No, it is not!

Volume Seven arrives in an astounding less-than-zero amount of time after the long-awaited Volume Six, and it includes the Prélude Nazaréen, which was written for a play. Also, the Leitmotiv du «Panthée», which was written for a recitation. Also, the Éginhard Prélude, which was probably written for a play or something but no one knows. Also, a trio of tiny ostensible string quartets: parts of these pieces are literally impossible for a string quartet to play, but thanks to state-of-the-art technology, here we can at last hear them exactly as they were meant to be heard. Also, a set of chords, grouped into four sections, which Satie wrote in his notebook and labelled "Harmonies Délectables", which I perform here in a way that I hope really brings out the mysterious beauty of these chords. Also, another Vexation, because I don't know how to leave well enough alone. Also, uspud.

Volume Seven was recorded on a beloved beginner's electronic keyboard, in various indoor and outdoor places in Western Massachusetts, with a portable digital recorder, in April and May 2019.

If you like this project, want it to continue, and/or want to experience other weird projects from me in the future, please consider giving me money.

If you have any questions or comments, good or bad, please contact me through the link on the right.
