Welcome to my recording of the complete piano works of Erik Satie.

Volume Five includes 5⁴ repetitions of Vexations.

By combining this album with the Vexations tracks in previous volumes of the series, and with the tracks in the following volume that will make up the difference, you will be able to listen to a full-length performance of 840 distinct repetitions of the piece. I do not know whether Satie himself would value doing such a thing, and I do not know whether you would value it either. So, I encourage you to experience or not experience the sounds in this album in whatever way you like.

Volume Five was recorded on a beloved piano in Cambridge, Massachusetts (the same one as in Volume One), with a portable digital recorder, over four days in November 2017.
